1. Election: Final Campaigning of the Parties

election, austria
In the final campaigning of the various parties before the election on September 29, the small party Wandel has expressed the wish to make it into the parliament.

The Green Party made the “final countdown for the climate election” the main topic in their final speech. Additionally, the ÖVP is preparing for the “final stage” together with their candidate Sebastian Kurz.

Party chairwoman Beate Meinl-Reisnger welcomed the final moments of the campaign trail. The FPÖ will have their speakers Herbert Kickl and Viennese Party head Dominik Nepp with them, while the SPÖ will have their candidate Pamela Rendi-Wagner on the stage.

The Liste Jetzt party will have their event in the Lugner City mall, and will include a discussion with owner Richard Lugner.

The “Earth Strike” demonstration of the movement Fridays For Future has achieved record-breaking participation during the demonstrations on Friday.

According to the police, up to 30,000 people participated in Vienna. In Innsbruck about 16,000 to 18,000 were present. In Graz, 3,000 people were on the streets, and for Linz 2,500. In Bregenz, the police estimated 4,000.

The huge number of protesters can also be explained by the schools in Vienna, Burgenland and Vorarlberg making the participation an official school outing.

The investigation team of SOKO Ibiza previously detained the former bodyguard of former FPÖ chairman Heinz-Christian Strache. They gave him 48 hours to make him talk before he would be handed over to the court.

According to formal sources, the man named “R” has given a long testimony about the former practices of Strache. Then, the interrogation of Strache’s assistant “S” also brought some helpful insight for the investigators.

Strache spoke about the conspiracies and that he has always listed his expenses as expected. He is suspected of having spent private money of up to 40,000 Euro per month and having declared it as party expenses.

Even though it’s still a young concept, the e-scooters around Vienna are causing problems. People don’t park them meaningfully, and some leave them blocking sidewalks and streets.

Currently, the city is doing an evaluation with the scooter companies, and the results will be presented later this autumn.
